Just two years ago, dad suddenly transitioned. Out of nowhere. Just like that. A healthy man in his 70s. It still feels like yesterday but so much has happened since, so more like the day before yesterday!
Death is a stark reminder of life's fleeting nature. In this reflection, I'd like to share some valuable insights I've gained from these experiences and explore the profound lessons that death can teach us about life.
Life Is Short and Precious
It may sound cliché, but our time on this earth is limited. We often take life for granted, assuming there will always be a tomorrow. We say things like “See you tomorrow” or “Sure, I’ll do it next week.” But the truth is, we don't know when our time will come. Losing my dad has taught me to embrace life with a sense of urgency and make the most of every moment.
The Impermanence of Success and Fame
Matthew Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing in "Friends," achieved immense fame and success, yet even he couldn't escape the inevitability of death. Our worldly accomplishments, no matter how great, will ultimately fade into insignificance in the face of mortality. I think the same of my dad. He achieved so much in life, but in the end, when death came knocking, he too had to leave.
